Week 3-4 Finally in Australia

September 2, 2018

Wow, I haven't had a p-day for a while. So much has happened since then, that I could type four emails about all of it. I only get 90 minutes to email in the field though. I can check emails all p-day, but only 90 minutes to respond.

We had our final week in the MTC. We were able to learn so much in that week that will and has completely changed my perspective in my mission. We woke up last Monday morning and reported to the travel office at 7:45 am. We took front runner to the airport, and our flight was at 2 pm. Both of my bags were 49.5 lbs. We landed in San Fransisco, then had a seven hour layover there. We found some food and got on the plane at 10 pm Monday. We were on the plane for 13 hours and landed in New Zealand Wednesday morning. It was raining and storming the whole time, so we didn't see much of it. We then had another 5 hour flight to Adelaide. We landed around 11:15 in Adelaide.

It is beautiful here and extrememly flat. It was a decent temperature on Wednesday when we landed. We met President Marquis and his wife, and they are wonderful. They are so caring and want to get to know you and love you. We traveled with them, and Elder and Sister Withington to the Mission home/office. We had arrivers training on Wednesday and Thursday, which focused on being in tune with the Spirit, mission rules, and preparing effectively. We spent a day and a half as a trio down in Adelaide proselyting, I was with Elder Rawlings and Elder Rodgers.

Wednesday night I learned that I was headed up to Darwin! (Note from mom...Elder Cozzens hoped that at some point in his mission, he would be able to serve in Darwin) My area is the Gunn area which is about a 30 minute drive away from the city. I would describe it to be similar to Hawaii, but not quite as luxurious. I didn't have a companion for Wednesday through Friday, because my companion was up in Darwin, but I met him when I got there Friday night. His name is Elder Nayusan, and he is from the Philippines. He is funny and dedicated to the work. His English is extremely good so that is nice that I don't have to deal with a language barrier.

We spent Saturday proselyting, and we found a few potentials. It is amazing how everything here is just so laid back. Sunday I met the branch, and the people are extremely converted and happy. We had a fast breaker with them afterwards, and went to dinner with the Bryers family.
Note to Mom/Dad:
Sorry this email is a lot shorter. They will probably have to be shorter, because I have to email my mission president, and our time is divided between library and on my phone. Fast food here is extremely expensive, and Mom, I was wondering if you could email me some recipes that I could cook that won't take a ton of ingredients or skill because it is a lot cheaper to eat in than eat out, and I want to learn how to cook. Darwin is wrecking my shirts, the collars get super dirty from sweat, and apparently I am here at the beginning of "build up." It will get a lot more humid up until wet season. But if I do get transferred back to Adelaide, I get free new shirts, so that is nice. Australians are kinda crazy and set in their ways. I love them, but they don't really love me, cuz I am a missionary. Everybody knows who we are, and that kind of shuts down our ability to work with them, because they simply say "yeeeeaaaaaaahhhh, no." I am dedicated though and know that by showing my faith, the numbers will come. We have one dude in our teaching pool, whose name is Thorin, like the dwarf in the Hobbit. Let's hope he sticks. Sorry that I am not correcting typos. I don't have a lot of time and especially this week there is a lot to include. I love you guys and hope you are hanging in there without me. Never shirk your duty.

Firm in the Faith
