Week 52 Good Things

August 7, 2019

This week was one of our busiest, and also today marks my one year mark on my mission! It almost felt as if it would never come, but also it feels like it has only been a month or so. I feel as if God changes how long time feels to us dependant upon how much we are enjoying a certain activity or event in our life. If we enjoy it, He shortens it, and if we don't enjoy it He lengthens it so we can learn more from it.

This week we set up a family history stand in a shopping center Monday-Wednesday and as such, my p-day was moved to today. We got a fairly good amount of people wanting to come to the family history center to learn more and find more about their family.

On Sunday, Elder Rawlings and I decided to change things up. We made dinner, a honey-soy sort of chicken made in the slow cooker. We brought it over to the couple that we are teaching, and we ate dinner with them. That was great!

Good Things

I had the opportunity last night to attend the temple for the second time here in Adelaide. While there, I received some of the most touching, inspiring, and guiding personal revelation that I have ever received. This is just one principle that I took away from it.

There is a man in the Book of Mormon by the name of King Zeniff, who had a great desire to live where his forebearers once did. In his own words, he describes himself as being "over-zealous to inherit the land of our fathers." (Mosiah 9:3) This "over-zealousness" later on caused much suffering and difficulties for Zeniff's family and loved ones. (Mosiah 7: 21-23)

I personally see it as a good thing, wanting to inherit what is rightfully yours. The problem becomes that he let that one good desire overshadow his zeal towards God. (Alma 27:27) All good things come from God. Good desires, hobbies, activities, motives, aspirations and even possessions. (Moroni 7:12-16) We cannot however, allow any of these things inhibit our relationship with God. If we will put God first, all of those good things will one day be ours. (Moroni 7:19-26, 3 Nephi 13:33)

"When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the claims for our affection, the demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities."
~Ezra Taft Benson

That promise is true, I know it is and testify to you that it is. Do all you can to live it!

Firm in the Faith,
