Week 53 Plain and Precious

August 14, 2019
Good morning, afternoon, and evening, or any time in between that you may be reading this, for me it is lunch time! This week we had our zone conference completely focused on the role of the Book of Mormon. President Marquis worked for BYU broadcasting before coming here to labor among the kangaroos.

A few years back when the "Book of Mormon Musical" came out, the First Presidency commissioned him to produce a documentary on the Book of Mormon. He showed it to us, and in one part of it, they are interviewing a Baptist minister who said that as soon as he read the first sentence "I Nephi having been born of goodly parents..." he knew that it was the word of God. He now uses the Book of Mormon in his Baptist sermons and invites all to read it. He also said "The Book of Mormon is more Christian than the Baptist hymnal."

I believe the name of the documentary is "A New Day for the Book of Mormon"

I add my witness that the Book of Mormon truly does fulfill prophecies in the Bible. It IS the word of God. Any person that drives through Utah should stop and take a second and think "this state only exists because of a book." A book that has withstood all criticism and a people that have withstood all persecution.

In the Book of Mormon, a prophet by the name of Nephi, has a vision, and in that vision, an angel explains the purpose of the Book of Mormon, and why the Bible is not enough:

1 Nephi 13:24-26

"24 And the angel of the Lord said unto me: Thou hast beheld that the book (The Bible) proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew; and when it proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew it contained the fulness of the gospel of the Lord, of whom the twelve apostles bear record; and they bear record according to the truth which is in the Lamb of God.
25 Wherefore, these things go forth from the Jews in purity unto the Gentiles, according to the truth which is in God.
26 And after they go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away."

I testify that the Book of Mormon contains many plain and precious things that the Bible once did, but now does not.

Revelation 14:6
"6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,"

If the Bible did contain everything that we needed for salvation, why would God send an angel to come down from Heaven with the everlasting gospel?

I testify to you all that this church is the Lord's church, God is real, His Son is Jesus Christ, and the fullness of His Gospel can be found in the Book of Mormon, which is God's Word. Righteous or not, male or female, prideful or humble, even in the most difficult of times, the most happy of times, He is always extending His hand, friendship, and His Gospel, which is the key to peace in this life, and Eternal Life in the world to come.
