Week 81 The Crowning Event

February 25, 2020

Another full week of exciting mission miracles has transpired here for me! On Saturday, Elder Jenkins and I knocked so many doors and worked so hard that we forgot that we would be getting a call later that day in regards to transfers. There was a branch barbeque at the park in Broken Hill, and we got our neighbor to come. As we were leaving the barbeque, our phone rang and it was our district leader and all of a sudden we remembered that today was the day! Surprisingly I learned that I was being transferred, but I will come back to that in a little bit.

We didn't let that phone call bother us though, and we just kept working. We knocked on the door of a previous contact and he let us in right away! He has been going through a tough patch in life and has been going through lots and lots of research trying to find the truth. Something that I thought was interesting is that he brought up one thing he found from his research...he believes that God lives on a planet somewhere out there in space. I never thought I would teach Kolob in a lesson (let alone a first lesson) but I did and that really got him thinking! Putting Kolob aside, he is really excited to continue meeting with the missionaries there and come to church. That was a great testimony builder for me that if something comes up and surprises you (like transfer calls), just keep working and that is when the miracles will come.

On Monday, Elder Jenkins and I made the 6 hour drive down to Adelaide for transfers. In that whole drive there is no fast food, a grand total of 2 or 3 gas stations and lots of red dirt and a few bushes. My new companion is Elder Foisa, we are serving in the Belair area. Today we are headed to the mission office to pick up a new Elder right off the plane...we will be in a trio, real exciting!

After only 2 days in the area, we have already had many miracles and good experiences while here. We taught an old man named Bob, and he got his first traffic ticket in his life. He was so upset about it, and with his accent he said "I got caught!" And Elder Foisa thought he said "I have court!" At that moment I couldn't stop myself anymore so we all just broke up and started laughing for a few minutes. Old people are just the best people! Another guy we taught is really funny too, his name is Troy and he is really solid! We read Helaman chapter 5 with him, and he was really emotional through it all. He expressed that he needs to make God a bigger priority in his life. It truly is amazing to see the change that the gospel can bring into peoples' lives.

I finished the Book of Mormon as of Sunday, and I started again on Monday. As I was reading the introducion, I read the words: "The crowning event in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ" As I read those words I felt the soft, sweet voice of the Holy Ghost and it said: "Just as the crowning event in the Book of Mormon is the Lord's personal ministry among the Nephites, His personal ministry in your mission, and in your life is the crowning event of your mission, and life." That was so simple, yet so profound. Everything in my mission, all of the personal experiences, the sharing what I know, the learning, meetings, transfers, companions, scriptures, dust storms, lightning storms, kangaroos, crocodiles, people I have worked with, members, leaders, friends, families, and everything else is vital and powerful and important; but through and above it all is the Lord's personal ministry and relationship with me. I am so grateful with that. I echo the words of Elder Holland: "those blessed with sight will recognize that, in spite of everything else this conference tradition may offer us, it will mean little or nothing unless we find Jesus at the center of it all. To grasp the vision we are seeking, the healing that He promises, the significance we somehow know is here, we must cut through the commotion—joyful as it is—and fix our attention on Him. The prayer of every speaker, the hope of all who sing, the reverence of every guest—all are dedicated to inviting the Spirit of Him whose Church this is—the living Christ, the Lamb of God, the Prince of Peace."

Fix your attention to Him. Do not concern yourself with the storms and commotions of the day, if you look to Him, He will sort out the storms for you.

Firm in the Faith,

-Elder Cozzens
